In Memory

Hon. Dean Christoffel

Dean Christoffel, cherished friend and founding board member of Step Up to Justice, passed away on January 16, 2024. Dean held a deep passion for access to justice, leveraging his remarkable skills, education, and all available resources to emphasize the significance of this cause. As a steadfast champion for Step Up to Justice, he believed in our mission and work from its inception, serving as a remarkable advocate and ambassador for the organization. Dean felt the importance of our work at his core, often becoming emotional when speaking with groups about the impact of SU2J volunteers. Beyond his advocacy, Dean was a true friend, and his absence leaves a void that we will feel deeply. We will miss his boundless enthusiasm, unwavering passion, and friendship more than words can express.

Juan Perez-Medrano

Long-time friend and Step Up to Justice founding board member, Juan Perez-Medrano, passed away on January 11, 2018. Juan’s passing is a loss that is felt by the entire community, and one that touched the SU2J family deeply.

Juan’s passion for access to justice issues was not a fleeting one, but rather a sincere, deeply held commitment. Juan was quiet about his giving. He never expected recognition for his efforts, but clearly deserved it. Juan welcomed every opportunity to volunteer his time to help his community. He embraced the work of Step Up to Justice, and our staff felt his support at every turn.
